ASHDOCS vs Stripe Invoicing: a Stripe Invoicing alternative

An honest comparison, using Stripe's own public pages and what ASHDOCS does today.

If you are looking for a Stripe Invoicing alternative, this page compares the two side by side. Stripe's facts come from Stripe's own public pages, checked on 9 October 2026 and linked below; ASHDOCS' facts describe the product as it works today. The short version: if you already bill your customers in Stripe, Stripe Invoicing is probably the better fit.

ASHDOCS is an invoicing API that sits next to your payment provider rather than being one. One request creates a numbered invoice with a PDF and a hosted page, can email it, and adds a pay link from your own Stripe or Razorpay account. Stripe Invoicing is part of Stripe itself: the invoice, the payment and the payout all live in your Stripe account.

Your own Stripe or Razorpay

Connect your Stripe account, your Razorpay account or both. The Pay button on the hosted invoice page uses whichever is connected, and the money goes straight to that account.

Invoices from spreadsheet rows

Upload a CSV with a column mapping. Rows that share the same group value become one invoice with several line items, so an export from a sheet or a database turns into invoices without code.

A fixed cost per invoice

Issuing an invoice uses 1 credit, whatever the amount on it. The Free plan includes 100 credits per month, and test keys never use credits.

ASHDOCS vs Stripe Invoicing at a glance

Stripe's column quotes Stripe's public pages (checked 2026-10-09). Where a page we checked does not state something, the cell says so rather than guessing.

Who it's forDevelopers and small teams who create invoices from their own app, a spreadsheet or an automation, and take payment through Stripe or Razorpay.Finance teams and developers, per Stripe's page; a natural fit if you already take payments with Stripe (stripe.com/invoicing).

When Stripe Invoicing is the better choice

Choose Stripe Invoicing if your customers already pay you through Stripe. The invoice, the payment, the customer record and any subscription all live in one account, and Stripe can charge a saved payment method automatically instead of waiting for the customer to click a link.

It is also the stronger option if you need many payment methods out of the box, or if your finance team wants invoices synced to NetSuite, Xero or QuickBooks: Stripe lists both on its Invoicing page, and ASHDOCS does not sync to accounting systems.

When to pick a Stripe Invoicing alternative

ASHDOCS fits better in three situations. The first is when you take payments in Razorpay as well as, or instead of, Stripe: ASHDOCS adds a pay link from whichever provider you connect, and the invoice looks and behaves the same either way.

The second is when invoices start life as rows somewhere else, such as a spreadsheet, a database export or an automation. A CSV batch maps your columns to invoice fields and groups rows into invoices, and the same invoice can also be created with one JSON request.

The third is pricing. Stripe charges a percentage of each paid invoice on top of payment processing; ASHDOCS charges 1 credit per issued invoice, whether the invoice is for ten dollars or ten thousand. Which costs less depends on your invoice amounts and volume, so run your own numbers with both pricing pages.

Using ASHDOCS with your Stripe account

You do not have to choose one or the other. When you connect your Stripe account to ASHDOCS, each issued invoice gets a Stripe Payment Link created in your account for the amount due, with the ASHDOCS invoice id in the link's metadata. Your customer pays through Stripe, the money lands in your Stripe balance, and Stripe's own processing fees apply.

When Stripe reports the payment back, ASHDOCS marks the invoice paid and, on paid plans, sends an invoice.paid webhook to your app. Reminders, the hosted page and the PDF stay in ASHDOCS, and you can test the whole flow with free test keys first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use ASHDOCS with my Stripe account?

Yes. Connect your Stripe account and every issued invoice gets a Stripe Payment Link in your account, shown as a Pay button on the hosted invoice page. Payments go to your Stripe balance and the invoice is marked paid when Stripe reports the payment.

Is ASHDOCS cheaper than Stripe Invoicing?

It depends on your invoice amounts and volume. Stripe Invoicing charges a percentage of each paid invoice plus Stripe Payments pricing, while ASHDOCS uses 1 credit per issued invoice regardless of the amount; if your customers pay by a Stripe link, Stripe's processing fees still apply.

Should I switch if I already bill subscriptions in Stripe?

Probably not. If your customers, subscriptions and saved payment methods are already in Stripe, Stripe Invoicing keeps everything in one place and can charge customers automatically. ASHDOCS is a better fit when invoices come from your own app, a spreadsheet or an automation, or when you also use Razorpay.

Does ASHDOCS work with Zapier, Make and n8n?

Yes. An HTTP step in any of them can call the ASHDOCS REST API with your API key. The packaged ASHDOCS apps are available now when you ask us, and the public directory listings are in progress.
