This free online receipt maker prints a receipt with the ASHDOCS invoicing engine, the same one paid accounts use. It starts on the Receipt design, a monospaced layout on an 80 mm till roll, and you can switch to any of the 15 full-page designs. The heading reads Receipt and the second date reads Paid on.

Response from a test key, trimmed. Test keys report 0 credits; a live key reports 1. Delivery is queued, so the status moves to sent once the email goes out.

How to use the free online receipt maker

Fill in your business, who paid you, the receipt number, the date and the date it was paid. Add each item paid for with its quantity and price, then select Download PDF. The preview beside the form is the same document the PDF prints.

What a receipt should show

A receipt confirms that a payment was made. The IRS lists receipts among the records that support a business's income and expenses, and says those documents should show who was paid, the amount, the date and a description of what was bought. A useful receipt carries:

  • Your business name and contact details.
  • A receipt number, so it can be found again.
  • The date of payment and who paid.
  • What was paid for, with quantities and prices.
  • Tax included, if any, and the total received.

Receipts or invoices?

An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms it. If you need to ask a client to pay, use the free invoice generator. If you are confirming a payment you already have, use the receipt maker.

What the free receipt maker does, and what needs an account

Everything above is free with no signup: the form, the live preview and the PDF download, with no watermark and no email address asked for. You can make 20 free PDFs a day from one connection; previews never count towards that.

An account adds what happens after the PDF: sending the document by email, a hosted page your client can open, a payment link, reminders before and after the due date, and a record of when it was viewed and paid. The free plan includes 100 credits a month and needs no card. "Send it and track it" brings what you typed here into the new account as a draft, so you do not type it twice.

What happens to what you type

The details you enter are sent to ASHDOCS only to draw the preview and print the PDF, and they are not stored. To stop abuse of the free tool we keep a log of each PDF made, with the IP address, browser and file size, for 30 days. If you choose "Send it and track it", the document waits in your browser's local storage until you sign in, and is then saved to your account.
